Christmas Decor (Yes, I said it....)

We have always been up north for Christmas.  For ten years we've traveled north to be with our families and we're usually gone from the end of school to after the New Year.  Last year was a small exception as we didn't leave until the day after Christmas.

Since we're never in town for Christmas, we've always been a little lacking on the Christmas decoration side.  We have tons of decor but they're the 85% mark down on the $2.00 garland at Wal-Mart during the after Christmas sale.  We have two trees.  One is skinny, tall  pre-lit tree given to us by my Mother-in-law when we moved to Florida and as of two years ago has a very bad lean  in the top section (we didn't even put it up last year).  The other tree we bought at an after Christmas sale at Target for $50 and opened it a year later to find that only half the lights worked.  We still have our cherished family heirloom ornaments and our handmade stockings (make by my mom) but the rest are eight year old chipped Wal-Mart brand glass ornaments and plastic balls that look like glass (which was a good thing when Lallie was little!).

Don't get me wrong, our house is always decked out and looks nice but it's not well put together (as in nothing matches) and a little chinsey.  We have a mixture of red, green, lime green, pink, blue and in he dining room we have a little gold and silver, with bright red on the stairways.  It's just all over the place!

Well, this year, the whole family is coming to us for Christmas and we're even thinking about hosting a Christmas open house earlier in December (which means I've got to get on the ball!).  So Husband and I have decided to step it up and rather than spending a ton of money on a new plastic tree (yes, we would do our research and buy a decent tree that will last), we're going to get a fresh tree and go all out on ornaments and decor.  It's been decided to be one of our Christmas gifts to each other.  That might seem a little strange, to gift each other Christmas decor, but it's something we've always discussed and this year, we're biting the bullet!

We've been looking around and found this setup at Frontgate and we are in LOVE with the ornaments and decor!  We'll still put up our half-lit tree (we just won't light it) with all our our traditional ornaments, but we'll put these on our fresh ten or twelve foot tree in our two story room.  We're going for a very traditional look with the golds and reds and I'm going to find some decently priced garland that hangs well (not the stiff wire kind) and try and make some new wreaths for the front doors.  I have some other ideas we've gathered from Pinterest as well.

What do you think of this color scheme? I love it!

Alive & Well!

Good morning fellow bloggers.  Rather, Happy New Year (considering it's been over a month since I've blogged).  I'm sorry for my extreme lack of posts.  December was a very hectic month with travel, plans, holidays....well, I'm sure you ALL know that drill all too well!  I'm looking forward to catching up on all your blogs and seeing what y'all did during your December holidays.

As a photo snapshot, here are few pictures from our December, Christmas and early January.  Please ignore my picture quality and blurriness.  My camera died the week before Christmas, so all of these are from my cell phone!  Not always the best quality.

Love decorating palm trees for Christmas!

Waiting in line at the Children's Museum to see SNOW!!  (On a 75 degree day!)

Tuckered out from all the Christmas fun!

Really neat book Christmas tree at a local used book store we frequent.
Ready for an Advent service at Church (I made the skirt).
Our tree (sorry, didn't take ANY pictures of the rest of the interior house this year!  I'm a slacker!)

After Christmas Eve service at Church at a friend's house.  The best picture I could get of the
extremely excited Lallie!

Up north in Kentucky (in much colder weather), hanging out with cousins.
More cousins!
Back home in Florida on New Year's Day, playing Lallie's new Wii Dance Kids game.  She got the hang of it but not before daddy accidentally punched Lallie in the eye while practicing Jingle Bells!
Cupcakes from the Easy Bake Oven!
Lallie's favorite princess (since they both have green eyes and blond hair).  Lallie arranged
all her Rapunzel dolls to show off the different sizes.
We arrived home to LOADS of fresh lettuce and tomatoes in our garden!

Rooting for the Clemson Tigers in the Orange Bowl.  We still love them though!  :(
NOW, it's cold in South Florida!  Down to the 30's at night!  My little fashionista
in the pink sparkly CVS sunglasses Lallie picked out for me in early 2011.

I have some really exciting blog posts coming up!  Over the holidays, Husband and I brought home a desk from a one-room school house, an antique.  It was in pretty rough shape, but Husband has been stripping and staining it and it's gorgeous!  I can't wait to show you the before and after pictures.

Also, in the next week or so, I'm going to be cooking for an entire day and making a month (+/-) of frozen dinners.  All healthy too!  I've researched and prepared the shopping list....so now it's just shopping and cooking!  I can't wait to share the recipes and results with you.

And of course, for my fashionista followers, I'll be sharing all my latest and favorite beauty products and clothing including.....my Lilly Rue La La and New Year Cheer sale finds!  I have to say, Husband didn't do too bad in Christmas Lilly either ;-)

Happy New Year y'all!

My Etsy Shop

Good morning y'all!

I've come to a decision about my Etsy shop and I've decide not to re-open.
(Keep reading though).

Reasoning?

Well, most of the things I make are too darn cute for Lallie not to wear!  :-)  I'm working on Christmas and Thanksgiving dresses, skirts and shirts and I just don't want to give them up!

But the other reason is I just don't have time to build up an inventory.  What am I going to do?  Put one dress and skirt on the site and hope someone buys?  Not great marketing.  In addition, I'm not one to buy a whole bolt of fabric.  I choose what I like in just enough fabric to give me variety for Lallie's closet and that's it.  I don't have enough customers (or money!) to buy a full bolt and just hope someone wants me to make something in that fabric.

So what does that mean for y'all?  I will customize design and make whatever you want.  We can just go over it via email and pick out designs and patterns etc. etc. etc.  It's super easy and that way I can make items for the few of you that have bought from me before and not worry about dealing with the masses.

After all I do really enjoy sewing but it's not my full time job.

Sew....(pun intended)....what do I have in the pipelines for Lallie?  I recently completed her Christmas dress and she'll wear it in her Christmas pictures this coming Friday.

It's a reversible A-Line dress with a white frock to go underneath.  Monogrammed on one side with rick rack trim....the other side simple with a cute little pocket (and Lallie LOVES pockets!)
If interested in this style, email me at SLPreppy@gmail.com!

Happy Tuesday Y'all!

Christmas with My Parents

Pictures from my parents home at Christmas. Grandma and Grandpa loved having us around for a couple days. We weren't there long as they will be in Florida on Monday of next week for a long visit and trip to the Keys (our first time, yay!)

Ah, my lovable and crazy baby brother, Chris. He is very photo shy and had just gotten out of bed. He's a paramedic by day and a talented pianist, rock climber (seriously, he can crawl like a spider on the ceiling) and teaching guide. He's just like my dad, a true renessaince man!

My mom and Lallie enjoying the move Up.

Lallie just loves "Titty Tat". This one is actually Kilmouskee as named by my brother. Clever.

The grandparents got Lallie her very own computer (THANK GOODNESS). Maybe she'll leave ours alone. She has no clue how to use it, but certainly loves pushing the buttons....for hours.

My aunt and uncle also got Lallie these drawing board things that are computerized and you can send pictures to your friends. Here are my dad and Husband drawing pictures for each other (not really, they both just happened to be trying them out at the same time. I don't think they even know I took these pictures! Ha. Lastly, Husband and I were able to visit one of my very best friends, Laura and her husband and daughter. I haven't seen her since last Christmas and now that her husband has graduated from law school, I'm hoping they can come visit soon for Laura and her daughter's very first trip to Disney World!

Christmas 2009

So far, Christmas has been wonderful, and we still have one more to go, when we visit my parents at the end of next week!

On Christmas Eve, Husband and I went out on an all day date! We haven't been alone in months, so it was wonderful. We started off at the famous Jim's Steak & Spaghetti in Huntington, WV and sat in the same booth JFK sat in when he ate at Jim's. Later, we went shopping for some last minute gifts.

I finally finished Lallie's knit cap, just in time for her to come down with a cold, preventing her from going outside to use it. Oh well, it's still cute and Lallie loves to wear it!
Well, look at that, Santa visited Granny's house!

....and brought Lallie lots of princess stuff, in which she proceeded to play dress-up with mommy.
The brothers in their new lightweight pull over jackets from their mom.

The family clan (plus one, well she might as well be part of the family now, as you'll see from my next post!)

MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'ALL!

"Peace on Earth and Good Will Towards All Men"

Just a reminder to all that on this day, God's gift to the world, Jesus Christ was born, so that he may later die for our sins! What a blessing for each and every one of us!

Merry Christmas to all my friends, family, twitter and blogger friends.
