....go with the {fashion} flow!

After all these years in South Florida, swearing I would never wear white, open toe shoes or halter top/tube tops after Labor Day....I finally broke the stride.

All these years, I've been thinking:
  • you live in South Florida
  • it's still 90 degrees out
  • we don't have fall weather (or winter for that matter)
  • South Floridians don't have to adhere to the rules
Yet, I haven't ever swayed that I can remember (okay...maybe on the open toe shoes, but flip-flops don't count right?)

Well, Friday night, Husband and I headed out to a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of America.  The event was held outdoors on the water with probably 500 people.  And it was hot and humid!  Underneath the tents, everyone was sweating....but having a fantastic time (and I took absoltely ZERO pictures!  Bad Jennifer!)

Knowing the event was outside and it would be hot, I wore a Lilly halter, J. Crew capris and Stephen Bonanno Sandals (notice my HUGE $9.99 CVS Pink Sparkly Sunglasses....love them!)

I felt weird and extremely self conscious as I left the house thinking that absolutely no one going to this party would break the stone-age fashion rules.  I was thrilled when we showed up at our friend's house (with whom we were riding to the event) and Gaby was wearing white capris, Jack Rogers and a Lilly shirt as well!  Shoooooo.....felt much better.

Arriving at the event, I clearly had nothing to worry about.  Maxi dresses, tropical outfits, tube tops, halter tops and lots and lots of Lilly were present at the event.  I should have known!  Right?  I mean, it was VERY hot out there and fall fashion just doesn't make it's debut in South Florida until at least Halloween.  So, from now on, I'm not worrying with the fashion stereotypes surrounding Labor Day and just going to...

....go with the {fashion} flow!
Stay tuned this week for lots more fun.....my birthday recap and a absolutely FANTASTIC giveaway and review!  You won't want to miss it!

Happy Monday Y'all!

  1. I adhere to the rules here in Ohio, but if I were in Florida (and when I vacation in Florida during the winter) all fashion rules fly out the window - it's warm there, who cares! And you look great girl!

  2. I struggle with this daily, too, but I recently wore white jeans to an event and I wasn't the only one!

  3. I put the obvious white flowy pants and sandals away, but I've had such a hard time putting up other things that I generally think of as "summery". It is still in the 90's here every day and the thought of putting on boots in September, almost October, is still very far away in reality. I think you can wear summer-type outfits the majority of the year in Florida, right? ;)

  5. I am not wearing white pants or shorts, but all my other summery fashions are still very much in play. The longer I live in FLA the closer I get to abandoning "the rule" maybe next spring I will break out the white before Labor Day.

  6. When I go on vacation in March to the tropics, I always pack, and wear, the "never before Memorial Day/after Labor Day" clothes/shoes. It's kinda the same, right?

If I lived in South Florida, I'd wear exactly what you wore. Perfect for your tropical weather.

    You looked adorable.

On another note, if I could find a cheap plane ticket I'd be all over the Lilly luncheon. That would be so much fun!

Oh, and did I miss your birthday?? I am so sorry! Happy belated!

  7. You. look. darling. Talk about Pretty in Pink, hello? To be honest, I adhere to 'the rules,' but I also live in Michigan. When in other parts of the country I tend to go with the local flow, and disregard some of the more rigid guidelines. :)

Thanks for sharing such a darling look!

  8. I agree! I live in SWFL and were still running around in lilly shorts and all kinds of white. The first sign of cold weather is when my white goes away. Rules don't apply to us Floridians!

    xoxo.
