Fashion Friday, April Fool’s and Birthdays Too!

I woke up this morning to a HORRIBLE April Fool’s Day joke.  I walked out to the living room and Husband was watching the news.  He said, “I’m sorry honey, but Lilly Pulitzer died last night.”  Commence teary eyes.  Then he says “…and everything is on sale today.”  Commence, confusion.  Then he says “I’m only kidding, Happy April Fool’s Day.”  Commence slapping Husband on the arm.  Ughh….men!

This is a picture of 1/4 of the stationary and cards that I own and hoard, never using.  This is my office stash of notecards and BIC Mark-It’s in case I do need to send a card from here.  I have a whole other larger stash at home with an assortment of pink BIC Mark-It’s in thick and thin point.

Why am I telling you this?  Because I am starting a Birthday List.  Those of you who would like a birthday card from yours truly, either email me your address and date at slpreppy@gmail.com or leave a comment below (I moderate comments, so I will not post them!).  Then, you will get a pretty card from one of the many note card designers I’ve collected.  If it were me being asked, I would totally do this.  I love getting mail!  Don’t you?

And who might you think I’m profiling?  As if you have to ask!  Lilly Pulitzer of course!

Lilly Pulitzer was born in New York in 1931 and married Peter Pulitzer in 1950, moving to Palm Beach, Florida.  In 1960, she designed a shift dress in bright whimsical colors to hide jucie spills on her dress from running her juice stand (Mr. Pulitzer owned several groves).  Her designs became famous and coveted with Jackie Kennedy sported one of Lilly’s dresses in Life magazine.

Life

Lilly’s company took off and remained in business until 1984, when Lilly retired to be with her growing family (you may know that the Liza and Minnie names commonly used in the Lilly line are the names of Lilly’s two daughters).  The business re-opened in 1993 under new ownership but remains true to the bright and fun colors Lilly made so prominent back in the 1960’s.

Today, Lilly lovers all over the world sport Lilly’s designs as often and as much as they can, with several being collectors of the vintage Lilly designs from the early years.

Of course, you can always spot Lallie and I in our Lilly!
